The Animal Protection League of SC (APL) is a local non-profit humane organization founded in 1982 by concerned individuals who love and respect animals. Our goal is to provide a safe haven for the community’s abused and abandoned dogs and cats, with the goal of rehabilitating them and finding them permanent, loving homes.

What sells? Furniture, electronics (please indicate working condition so that we can price accordingly), collectibles, large toys, tools, and children's clothing (in good shape!). Please, no encyclopedias or adult clothing. Thanks!

Annual Auction: Each year the APL sponsors an auction to raise money for the shelter. Plans are already underway for the 2009 auction, which will be held in the fall. Stay tuned for more information here and in our newsletters. If you have items or services to donate or if you can help organize the event, please call Debbie at 603-5443.

Upcoming FUNdraisers: Check back soon for information about our next event.

Adopt-a-Pet Saturdays: Every Saturday APL takes a selection of dogs and cats to various locations in Columbia and to make pets available for adoption. These events are usually from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are currently being held at the Animal Supply House in Irmo (1674 Lake Murray Blvd), the Animal Supply House in Lexington, and PetSmart in Lexington. To find out where we will be on a particular Saturday, please see our most recent newsletter.

APL staff and volunteers knowledgeable about the pets are present to answer questions and assist with the adoption process. An adoption fee is required to help cover the cost of spay/neuter and other health care the animals have received while at the shelter. The current fee is $100 for a cat and $150 for a dog. For additional information please call or e-mail the shelter at aplpets@bellsouth.net.
